🍂 Indian Almond Leaf is essential for this species — not optional. Betta imbellis evolved in tannin-rich peat blackwater; IAL creates the pH, tannins and water chemistry this species needs for health and breeding.
🐟 imbellis Care Keys
Soft acidic water: pH 5.5–7.0; blend with RO if tap is hard; hard water is not suitable for this species.
22–26°C — cooler than domestic Bettas: Avoid above 28°C; heater required in winter; natural room temperature fine in summer.
Fry: prepare infusoria before breeding: Fry smaller than splendens; BBS too large first week; have infusoria culture ready before spawn.
Community tip: Male imbellis can coexist with small Rasboras, Otocinclus and tiny peaceful fish in a well-planted blackwater setup — more suitable than most Betta splendens males. Chili Rasboras and similar species are natural co-inhabitants of imbellis habitat in the wild.
