🍂 Indian Almond Leaf strongly recommended. DT HM has the largest total fin surface of any Betta variety — two tail lobes + enlarged dorsal. IAL tannins protect this large surface from bacterial fin rot.
⚠️ Swim bladder sensitivity — feed small portions only. Compact DT body. Consume in 2 minutes maximum. Fast one day weekly. Sponge filter only. One male per tank.
🐟 DT HM Setup Keys
Sponge filter: Two tail lobes + enlarged dorsal = more fin surface than standard HM; current must be zero.
Blood Worm Sticks (slow-sinking): Preferred over floating pellets for DT — reduces surface air-gulping that worsens swim bladder issues.
Smooth decor + IAL: Multiple fin lobes = more tearing risk; tannins protect large fin surface from bacterial infection.
DT flare display: Two tail lobes fan outward left and right; enlarged dorsal fans upward; ventral filaments extend downward. The fish appears surrounded by fins from all directions — the butterfly-wing display unique to the Double Tail gene.
