Live Apple Snails — Pomacea sp.

India's most popular freshwater aquarium snail — outstanding natural algae cleaner, substrate aerator and bold display invertebrate. Available in Small, Medium and Big in packs of 5 to 50.

🐌 Live Snails 🌿 Algae Cleaner 💡 Beginner Safe

🐌 Why Apple Snails?

Apple Snails are the most effective and beginner-friendly algae cleaners available for Indian aquariums. They methodically graze glass, rocks, driftwood and decorations — removing green algae, brown diatoms and biofilm without disturbing fish or plants (when appropriate species are chosen). Their gentle substrate movement also aerates the bottom layer, reducing anaerobic pockets.

Beyond their practical role, Apple Snails are genuinely fascinating display animals — each with individual foraging patterns, vivid shell colouration (golden, ivory, blue, brown) and an active, curious personality that makes them engaging to observe.

Beginner Tip: The 10 Small pack at Rs 79 is the ideal trial size — low cost, easy to manage, and gives you a chance to observe Apple Snail behaviour before committing to larger quantities.

Key Benefits

  • Natural algae control: Methodically cleans glass, decorations and hardscape — green algae, brown diatoms and biofilm.
  • Substrate aeration: Gentle movement oxygenates substrate — reduces anaerobic dead spots in the bottom layer.
  • Beginner hardy: Tolerates wide parameter range — one of the easiest invertebrates to keep in Indian conditions.
  • Display quality: Bold golden, ivory and blue shell colouration — beautiful centrepiece invertebrates especially in Big size.
  • Controllable breeding: Requires male + female (no self-fertilisation). Eggs laid above waterline — simply remove to control population.

🥬 What Apple Snails Eat

  • Blanched zucchini / cucumber — favourite food; place weighted on tank floor 3–4x weekly
  • Cuttlebone — essential calcium source for shell health, especially in soft Indian city water
  • Algae wafers — consistent supplemental nutrition when tank algae levels are low
  • Tank algae and biofilm — their primary natural food; grazes continuously
Lid Warning: A tight-fitting lid with no gaps is non-negotiable. Apple Snails actively climb out of open tanks — especially at night and when females are seeking egg-laying sites above the waterline.
