✔ The no-CO2 foreground carpet. Monte Carlo grows upright without CO2. Marsilea Hirsuta stays low and carpets without CO2 — this is its primary advantage.
🍀 Submerged leaves look different from emersed (clover) photos. Smaller, rounded submerged-form leaves are normal. Emersed leaf melt (1–3 weeks) is also normal. Height = light level — high light produces most compact carpet.
🍀 Three Keys
Fine substrate: Runners spread more easily in fine sand or aqua soil than coarse gravel. Root tabs before planting improve density in inert substrate.
Plant densely: Clusters 1–2cm apart for even carpet. Closer initial planting = fewer bare patches = faster-looking coverage.
Trim by thinning: Lift and thin runners from below — not top-trimmed like stem plants. Manage density; does not need frequent trimming like Hygrophila.
