🧪 Why UV Sterilisation Changes Everything

Standard canister filters — even high-quality ones — cannot eliminate free-floating microscopic threats. Green water algae spores, waterborne bacteria and free-swimming parasite stages (Ich, Velvet, Flukes) pass straight through conventional filter media and re-enter the aquarium on every cycle.

The SOBO UV canister integrates a germicidal UV steriliser directly in the filter body. Every litre of water is exposed to UV light after passing through all three media stages. Algae spores are destroyed before they can bloom. Pathogens are eliminated before they reach your fish. The result is consistently crystal-clear, biologically safe water — with zero additional equipment, zero extra plumbing.

The transparent canister body makes UV monitoring effortless — a blue-violet glow visible through the body confirms the steriliser is active on every run. When the glow dims, the lamp needs replacement (typically after 12–14 months continuous use).

✅ Three-Stage Filtration — How It Works

• Stage 1 — Mechanical (Coarse Sponge, bottom basket): First contact — traps large particles, uneaten food and fish waste. Prevents debris from clogging biological media. Rinse in aquarium water every 4–6 weeks.
• Stage 2 — Biological (Ceramic Bio-Rings, middle basket): The most critical stage — provides vast surface area for beneficial nitrifying bacteria that convert toxic ammonia → nitrite → harmless nitrate. Rinse gently in aquarium water every 2–3 months only. Never scrub or use tap water.
• Stage 3 — Chemical/Polish (Fine Wool, top basket): Final polishing — removes fine particles, yellow water discolouration and odours. Replace every 4–6 weeks. Can be substituted with activated carbon, zeolite or specialist media.
• UV Sterilisation (after all media stages): Clean, filtered water passes through the UV chamber before returning to the tank. Germicidal UV light destroys any remaining free-floating algae spores, bacteria and parasite stages.
